GameDev Codex ("we," "us," "the site") is a community knowledge base for game developers, operated under the DiNusty Empire. This page explains what information we collect, why, and how long we keep it.
Information We Collect
If you create an account, we store your email address, username, and any profile information you choose to add (display name, avatar, bio). This is necessary to operate accounts, attribute contributions, and send account-related notifications you opt into.
We also collect basic, anonymous analytics on every page view to understand how the site is used:
- Which page was viewed (homepage or a specific entry)
- The date and time of the view
- Your approximate country, derived from your IP address at the network level — we do not store your IP address itself
This analytics data is not linked to your account or any other personal identifier, even if you're signed in. We don't use tracking cookies, browser fingerprinting, or cross-site tracking for this.
How We Use This Information
- Operating your account and authenticating sign-in
- Sending notifications you've opted into (post status updates, comments, etc.)
- Understanding aggregate traffic patterns — which content is useful, which regions our community is in, and how the site is growing
- Maintaining the security and integrity of the platform
We do not sell, rent, or share your personal information with third parties for advertising or marketing purposes. We do not run ads on this site.

Your Rights
You can review and update your account information at any time from your
account settings. If you'd like your account and associated personal data deleted, or want to know exactly what we hold about you, contact us at the email below and we'll handle the request directly.
If you're located in the EU/EEA, UK, or a US state with its own privacy law (such as California), you may have additional rights under GDPR, UK GDPR, or state law respectively — including the right to access, correct, delete, or export your data, and to object to certain processing. We'll honor these requests regardless of where you're located.
Cookies & Local Storage
We use local storage (not cookies) to remember your theme preference (dark/light) and, if you're signed in, your authentication session. These are functional and necessary for the site to work as intended — they aren't used for tracking or advertising.
Third-Party Services
We use Supabase for our database and authentication, and Vercel for hosting. Both process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments. We use Resend to deliver transactional emails (such as notifications you've opted into) — your email address is shared with them solely for this purpose.

If we make material changes to how we handle your data, we'll update this page and adjust the "last updated" date above.
